Brimstone butterfly

Previous

Next

This was a hot day and the butterflies were very active, feeding on Betony flowers. The Brimstone has translucent wings and is better photographed by backlighting: compare the upper, backlit, shot with the lower, frontlit, picture taken on the same day.

Both images: Olympus OM4Ti Zuiko 135mm macro lens. Magnification: x0.3 Exposure: aperture priority at f11. Film: Provia 400F

This image is from a series taken during "Photographing Nature at the Earnley Concourse" in 2001
