Photographing the Pyramidal Orchid

Previous Next

This is the setup for photographing the pyramidal orchid. Note in particular the use of two Benbo tripods. The camera is on a Baby Benbo; this is a great tripod for photographing flowers because it is small but very stable and rigid. The other Benbo - a Trekker - is there to support the flower. Pyramidal orchids (and many other flowers) have long pliable stems that move in the slightest breeze, making close-up photography very difficult and frustrating.

Frankly, this is about the only thing that the Benbo Trekker is any use for. It is f\r too flimsy for serious use with an SLR camera.

Yes, that is me in the photo, back in the days when I thought that a beard and cropped hair was a neat idea.

This photograph is by Ian Aston.
